How to Build a Survey with Claude

Building surveys manually takes time. Especially when the survey already exists somewhere else.

With our survey-automator skill, you can give Claude rough survey notes, a questionnaire draft, or an old template. The skill turns that material into an import-ready JSON-file that you can paste into Survey Automators directly.

In short: share your survey material, let the skill create the JSON, then import it from clipboard.

Step 1: Open Claude with the survey-automator skill

Start by opening Claude with the Research Automators survey-automator skill enabled.

You do not need a perfect prompt. You can start with rough notes, an existing questionnaire, or a short survey brief.

Start by opening Claude with the Research Automators survey-automator skill enabled.

You do not need a perfect prompt. Most users start with rough notes, an existing questionnaire, or a short survey brief.

Example prompt:

We need a customer feedback survey after purchase.

Ask about overall satisfaction, delivery, quality and customer service. Add an NPS question and an open comment at the end.

If someone gives a low satisfaction score, ask what went wrong.

Add age and gender questions at the end.

Generate some example responses too.

Step 2: Copy the generated JSON

After Claude generates the survey, copy the full JSON response.

The survey-automator skill creates a complete survey structure that can be imported directly.

You do not need to edit the JSON manually before importing.

Step 3: Import the JSON

Inside the Survey tab:

● Click Import survey
● Choose From clipboard
● Select what parts of the JSON you want to import
● Done!

You can also paste directly with Ctrl + V.

Generate synthetic responses for testing

The survey-automator skill can also generate example responses.

This is useful for:

● Testing dashboards
● Checking filters and segments
● Previewing exports
● Demo projects
● Testing survey logic before launch

The responses are included directly in the JSON import. The same file for importing the survey works for importing the data in the Response-tab.
