How to Turn Survey Templates into Working Surveys

With our survey-automator skill for Claude, you can turn survey templates with conditions, redirects, screenouts, and completion text into working surveys for Survey Automator.

Upload or paste your questionnaire into Claude with the survey-automator skill enabled. Claude then creates the survey JSON, including the survey logic and respondent flows.

You can also continue prompting Claude to make changes instead of manually editing the survey logic yourself.

Start with the questionnaire document

Start by opening Claude with the survey-automator skill enabled.

Then upload or paste your questionnaire document into the chat.

This works with:

● Excel sheets
● PDFs
● Existing questionnaires
● Survey scripting notes

The questionnaire can include:

● Conditions
● Redirects
● Screenout logic
● Error messages
● Completion text

Let Claude generate the survey setup

After Claude processes the questionnaire, it returns a survey JSON file for Survey Automator.

The same file can include both the survey setup and synthetic responses for testing.

You do not need to manually script or structure the survey before importing it.

Refine the survey with follow-up prompts

You can continue prompting Claude to update the survey instead of manually editing the JSON.

The workflow becomes iterative. Instead of manually editing survey logic, you describe the change you want and let the survey-automator skill regenerate the survey JSON.

For example:

Add a page break before each section.

Add an error message if respondents give contradictory answers.

Change the order of question 1 and question 3.

Import the survey into Survey Automator

Inside the Survey tab:

● Click Import survey
● Choose From JSON or From clipboard
● Paste or upload the generated JSON
● Select what you want to import
● Done

You can also paste directly with Ctrl + V.

Step 5: Test the survey setup

After import, the survey and its logic are fully editable inside Survey Automator.

You can test:

● Conditions
● Redirects
● Screenouts
● Error messages
● Completion text
● Synthetic responses

The same JSON file can include both the survey setup and synthetic responses for testing dashboards, filters, exports, and survey logic.
